Guidelines for Choosing Optimal Parameters

This paper proposes a guidance in the process of choosing and using the parameters of elasticity of a snake in order to obtain a precise segmentation. A new two step procedure is deened based on upper and lower bounds on the parameters. Formulas, by which these bounds can be calculated for real images where parts of the contour may be missing, are presented. Experiments on segmentation of bone ...

Choosing Regularization Parameters in Iterative Methods for Ill-Posed Problems

Numerical solution of ill-posed problems is often accomplished by discretization (projection onto a finite dimensional subspace) followed by regularization. If the discrete problem has high dimension, though, typically we compute an approximate solution by projecting the discrete problem onto an even smaller dimensional space, via iterative methods based on Krylov subspaces. In this work we pre...

Choosing Parameters for NTRUEncrypt

We describe a methods for generating parameter sets and calculating security estimates for NTRUEncrypt. Analyses are provided for the standardized product-form parameter sets from IEEE 1363.1-2008 and for the NTRU Challenge parameter sets.

Optimal lot sizing in screening processes with returnable defective items

This paper is an extension of Hsu and Hsu (Int J Ind Eng Comput 3(5):939–948, 2012) aiming to determine the optimal order quantity of product batches that contain defective items with percentage nonconforming following a known probability density function. The orders are subject to 100 % screening process at a rate higher than the demand rate. Shortage is backordered, and defective items...

Choosing weight functions in iterative methods for simple roots

Weight functions with a parameter are introduced into an iteration process to increase the order of the convergence and enhance the behavior of the iteration process. The parameter can be chosen to restrict extraneous fixed points to the imaginary axis and provide the best basin of attraction. The process is demonstrated on several examples.
